Tier 2 Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) and Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) Funding Announcement Released
Washington, DC - April 8, 2010
Today the Office of Adolescent Health released a funding announcement for two new new programs:
- The $25 million in competitive cooperative agreements to be awarded to "research and demonstration programs" under the new Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program and for
- The Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) which was passed as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Applications are due June 8, 2010. Approximately 45 cooperative agreements will be awarded. Awards will be announced in September, 2010.
Programs must be "age appropriate" and "medically accurate." Both terms are defined in the announcement:
- "The term “age-appropriate”, with respect to the information related to pregnancy prevention, means topics, messages, and teaching methods suitable to particular ages or age groups of children and adolescents, based on developing cognitive, emotional, and behavioral capacity typical for the age or age group."
- "The term “medically accurate and complete” means verified or supported by the weight of research conducted in compliance with accepted scientific methods; and published in peer-reviewed journals, where applicable or comprising information that leading professional organizations and agencies with relevant expertise in the field recognize as accurate, objective, and complete." (p. 9)
Applicants will be considered under two funding streams. OAH and ACYF will collaborate to make joint funding decisions. TPP awards will be made by OAH and managed by OAH while PREP awards will be made by ACYF and managed by ACYF. Applicants may only submit one application under this joint FOA, but applicants will be considered for both the TPP and PREP funding, but may only be funded for one funding source.
Cooperative agreements will be made for five year project periods. Awards will range from $400,000 to $1,000,000 per year.
